I am a Man, Not a Marshmallow

Hello Goddesses,

Today I just want to share a short, sweet story with you.

My husband (El Guapo) told me today, “I am a Man, Not a Marshmallow Malena.” He told me this when I was trying to get him to open up and talk about why he seems so rigid and cold these last few days. As I gently poked and prodded a bit at him, he told me he has a lot on his mind. He said he’s under a lot of stress from buying us a new home. He’s focused on his new business and supporting our family. Lastly, he said he just feels like some days he’s in his head and it’s very overwhelming to feel and be soft and mushy with me.

This is when I remember that men process stress differently. Men don’t talk to feel better. Men turn off their feelings to some extent when they have to go into warrior mode in the world. Men sometimes need to not be in their feelings to get things done.

I giggled when he said, “I am a man Malena, not a marshmallow” and I softened and gave him a pass. I told him I would try my best to be supportive. I also thanked him for letting me in on what he was experiencing.  Then I turned toward myself, filled my own cup and knew that everything would be just fine. I know he will open back up soon (hours/days) and give me even more than I need or want because I gave him space and respected how he operates as a man.

Much Love,

Malena xoxo
